Leeds Childrens Hospital Appeal - Whats it all about?
Leeds Children’s Hospital is the second largest service for Children in the country and was created in April 2010 by bringing all children’s inpatient services together in one location at the Leeds General Infirmary, solving the issue of seriously ill youngsters having to be transferred across the city.
The range of specialised children’s services in Leeds that has evolved to meet the needs of the local, regional and national child population is extensive. Our children’s services admit over 30,000 children to our wards each year, we treat over 109,000 children in our outpatient departments and see nearly 60,000 children each year through our Accident and Emergency Department.
Our children’s services treat children from 0 -17 and provides secondary care for the children of Leeds and highly specialised tertiary care for the children of Yorkshire and beyond with that population covering 2.8m.
Leeds Children’s Hospital Appeal was launched in September 2010 to provide all of the above and more for this newly-established facility. Children from across Yorkshire and beyond are treated here at Leeds Children’s Hospital and we want to make their stay with us brighter, better and happier.
Our main aim is to make every child’s stay in hospital better, brighter and happier. No child wants to stay in hospital and neither do their parents, so we try and make their stay as comfortable as possible.
They want to make the wards, theatres, parent waiting rooms and day case areas bright, friendly and welcoming for children and their families. Banish plain walls and provide artwork which enhances the environment, provide games, computers, educational materials and toys so patients and siblings don’t get bored.
Then there is also the state of the art medical equipment we fund which makes procedures quicker, safer, less discomforting and helps maintain Leeds as a centre of excellence for Children’s Hospitals. This means we treat more and more children from across Yorkshire and beyond every year, it is only with your support we can maintain high levels of achievement.
They have achieved so much in our first three years, raising just under £2 million thanks to the generosity and commitment of our supporters, but there is still so much more to be done.
